As I mentioned in my Nesting post, I’ve been working on projects for the baby’s room. The first projects I finished were a crib skirt and a curtain for the closet. I love the fresh, clean, calm look of white cotton eyelet, so I decided that it would be the main fabric in the baby’s room. (The room has soft grey walls with white trim. We’re using accent colors of coral and aqua.) I found some really pretty paisley eyelet at Joann and bought basically the whole bolt for these projects…
The crib skirt has two lengths, since the the mattress platform of the crib is adjustable. I wanted the gap between the bottom of the mattress and the wooden frame of the crib to be covered, and I wanted the skirt to come basically to the floor. The crib skirt is basically a “tear away” design: the top layer is the right length for the lowest setting of the mattress, and the bottom layer is simply basted on to make it long enough for the highest setting. When we lower the mattress, I’ll just take out the basting to shorten the skirt. (Does that make any sense?)
The view from the rocking chair looks straight into the tiny closet in the room. Right now, the closet holds a combination of my iron+ironing board, sewing supplies, some scrapbooking supplies that didn’t fit anywhere else, and some of the baby’s clothes. The closet has no door, so the view was pretty ugly– as neat as I try to keep that closet, it always is a bit jumbled-looking. I just took a piece of the eyelet, hemmed the bottom, and added a wide channel at the top so that we could hang it on a spring-loaded curtain rod. Such a simple fix, but it makes all the difference!

Beautiful! It looks so calm that I would like to sleep in there.
