Well, it’s over for this year. Last weekend (Oct 10-11), it started getting cold enough to warrant frost warnings on the NOAA site for our area. Husband has been so very helpful– on the 11th, he went out and picked all the tomatoes that were left on the plants, red, not quite red, and green…
They [...]

The pitiful state of my garden
Posted in aphids, diseases, nasturtiums, peppers, strawberries, tomatoes on September 27, 2009 | 2 Comments »
It’s so pitiful, really, that I’m not going to show a picture of it. A while ago, I went out and mercilessly hacked off a bunch of tomato branches and leaves that were doomed by powdery mildew. My garden looks depressingly skeletal now, but at least it is still producing for now:
I had enough tomatoes [...]

Things sure have been busy around here since my last post. Husband and I had a nice long weekend at GenCon in Indianapolis, I started my new job, I won a blue ribbon and a rosette at the State Fair for one of my sewn projects (more about that in a later post, maybe! [...]

The garden is doing well. Above is a view of the whole thing… I took some pictures this afternoon and last Sunday to share… I’ll let the photos and their captions stand for themselves tonight.
Thankful Thursday and quick update

Yes, I do realize it’s Friday– but better late than never!
I’m thankful this week that some loose ends for my dissertation work are starting to get tied up. One last major hurdle and I think I’m set to go to finish my analysis. And today I officially set my defense date for July 22. It’s [...]
Some late Halloween costume pics, just for fun

It’s getting pretty cold here in the midwest, and there’s not much going on in the garden (I’ll post later this week, hopefully, about completing the winterization process for the garden this year… I’m going to try and keep the strawberries for next year…). I felt like posting something silly, so here are some photos [...]

I mentioned in an earlier post that the condo association for our building decided to have the wooden balcony railings, etc. repainted. They asked all the unit-dwellers to move our stuff so that it wouldn’t be in the way of the painters. I was pretty sad to chop down most of my garden, but it [...]
Tasty strawberries

Our strawberries have been faring much better this round of blossoms, as I think I’ve mentioned in previous posts.
They are about twice the size, at least, of the first strawberries we were getting, and they taste sweet! Unfortunately, Husband and I are apparently not the only ones who think they taste good…
The plants in the [...]

I’m thankful for an absolutely wonderful two years and two days with my fabulous husband! We had a fantastic anniversary dinner up in Chicago at a little place called Sweets & Savories. Monday night is the chef’s tasting menu special, and we ended up having 9 fantastic courses… (I *did* end up taking a couple [...]

I am *so very thankful* that my paper has been resubmitted (again)!! This is the third submission, and although it took only 3 weeks to get it back to the journal, it was probably the most stressful part of the paper so far. Hopefully there won’t be too much more to go through with this [...]
