I have finally finished the polka-dot dress! It took me a ridiculous amount of time to finish it, but it’s complete! Around home it gained the affectionate epithet “that stupid polka-dot dress” because it was always around staring at me, waiting to be worked on. I finished it on the 23rd (it took me almost a whole week to sew that last button on!!) but due to general busyness and a lovely break to go to Chicago with family, I’m posting photos now:
This was made from Vogue Pattern #2961, one of the Vintage Vogue collection. I had to modify the skirt so that it didn’t make huge “hip-wings”. I also used snaps to close the bodice and sewed buttons on as decoration rather than try to make buttonholes in this silk. If I ever make this pattern again, I will NOT use silk! It’s going to be a good long while before I sew on something this slippery (I think!). I also found a $4 belt at Plato’s Closet– a wide belt looks better on me with this dress than the very narrow one found with the actual pattern.
Now I just need to find an occasion to wear it! 😉
