On the layout in my previous post, I stitched around my pattern paper blocks and photos to create a patchwork look.
I wanted to hide my thread ends so that they didn’t distract from the clean lines, even the really short ends. Maybe this is an old, familiar technique, but I was kind of proud of myself for figuring it out, so I thought I’d share a step-by-step here of how I did it. All you need is a regular hand-sewing needle. Hopefully the pictures+my words will give you an idea of what I did…
Here’s what my paper block looked like when I finished stitching with my sewing machine. The top thread was sticking up and I wanted to bring it to the back to hide it. But the thread was pretty short, so I couldn’t just thread it onto a needle and bring it through to the back.
I insert an unthreaded sewing needle partway through the next hole over so that the needle’s eye is up.
Now, while the needle is already inserted, I thread the eye of the needle with the short end of the thread that is sticking out.
Pull the needle the rest of the way through the hole. Now the thread is on the back, and you can secure it with your adhesive!
Pretty simple (hopefully my description was clear).
