Since I’m challenging myself+my husband to make new recipes out of our new cookbooks throughout the year (at least one from each book per month), I decided to do mini-review posts of the recipes we make on the blog. I will not be posting the recipe (you can get it yourself in whichever book it comes from), but I’ll post a photo (if possible) of our dish made from the recipe as well as a few bullet-point notes. There’s a category on the blog for these posts called “recipe review 2013.”

We had beef taco salad with our Mexican rice…
Recipe: Beef Tacos from The Complete America’s Test Kitchen TV Show Cookbook 2001-2013, page 354
- when did we make this? Saturday, February 9, for supper
- did we change anything? halved the recipe, and we used 80% lean ground beef, because that’s what we had on hand (rather than the 90% lean in the recipe). We served it over lettuce as a taco salad (with green peppers, shredded cheddar, and sour cream) and ate fried corn tortilla wedges with it.
- what did we like? This taco beef totally knocked our socks off. It was super delicious, and Husband remarked that he would be really depressed if we had to use packaged taco seasoning mix ever again.
- what didn’t we like? N/A
- will we make it again (any changes in the future)? Yes, yes, yes! It is no harder than using a packaged mix, and it is galaxies (not just worlds) better!
