I love scrapbooking.
It makes me so happy. I was in such a good mood by the end of the day when I made most of this layout! I love playing with paper and making pretty things– specifically layouts.
Here’s my latest layout, about a day trip to Washington, DC with my friend Amy in 2009. It was right after the HUGE snowstorm that basically crippled the region for a while, so there was tons of snow everywhere. All the snow inspired the snowflake motif.
By the way– I know that “Washington” is spelled incorrectly in these photos! I have since corrected it, but since it takes so long to re-photograph, I decided to just leave the photos as-is for this post.
I’ve been mulling over this page since before Vivian was born. I think it may have been the next layout I was planning to work on (after I finished the PhD ornaments that ended up being the last things I made before her birth). For a long time, the photos sat with a lovely piece of Lily Bee paper, waiting for the perfect idea. But since I had twelve photos and only one sheet of the paper, and nothing else that really coordinated (at the time), it all just sat.
I’ve pinned sketches and ideas to my Scrap Pinterest board for this layout, but until recently, I didn’t act on them. Then a confluence of ideas made my brain ‘splode, and I knew I had to make the page now.
First: the weekly sketch on the Studio Calico blog. I saw it and immediately thought of my twelve square photos from this trip, and I knew that the sketch would convert beautifully to a 2-page spread. Second, I read this post on Shimelle’s blog, which led me to Miss Smith’s beautiful blog, and her Pretty Polaroid series. Cue: brain ‘splosion. I think you can see where this is going.
Third, since I was using a Studio Calico sketch, I decided to finally break into my May 2012 kit — which, coincidentally, has the same color scheme as the Lily Bee paper I mentioned before. The Lily Bee paper never made it onto the layout (but never fear, I will use it!!), but I made a nice big dent in the Studio Calico kit! I LOVE scrapbooking with a kit!!
The result is a layout that is even better than I originally imagined. I love every little bit of it!! And I’m one layout closer to finishing up my 2009 layout list. Only five left!
