A good while ago, I was listening to an episode from the Digi Show archives* in which the panelists were discussing (among other “life-hacks”) go-to recipes they make. I tracked down Peppermint’s list on her blog, and I’ve made pretty much all of them (and really liked them!) In her description of the buffalo-style turkey burgers, she suggests some variations that sound delicious! I finally made a version inspired some of her suggestions. I’m pretty proud of how it turned out, especially since it was fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants, so I thought I’d share it here (also, now I have it written down somewhere to make another time!)
Asian-inspired glazed turkey burgers
1 lb ground turkey
ground ginger (fresh grated would be better)
parsley (fresh if you have it!)
freshly-ground black pepper
four hamburger buns
Combine all ingredients and shape into four patties. Heat some canola oil in a skillet and cook the burgers until browned on both sides and meat is cooked completely through. While burgers are cooking, prepare glaze and toppings. Toast buns, if desired.
1/4 c. soy sauce
1/4 c. cold water
1 Tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp cornstarch
ground ginger (again, fresh would be better)
Whisk all ingredients together in a small saucepan. Heat until sauce bubbles and thickens, then remove from heat. Using a fork, place each burger into glaze and turn to coat. Place each glazed burger onto a bun. Add toppings (below) as desired.
All-in-all, they’re pretty healthy, and I think they tasted great. Let me know if you try this version. I hope you like it!
*Someday I should do a post about the podcasts to which I subscribe. They make for very pleasant background entertainment when I’m scrapbooking, gardening, exercising, cleaning… etc.!
