So, I’ve been meaning to do this project for a while. In fact, I’ve had the blue-patterned fabric–prewashed and everything!– since February. I’m glad to say that now I’ve finally finished the napkins:
This is not an exciting project, which is why it took me so long to get started. But it was the perfect thing for me the other weekend when I was feeling particularly uncreative. It allowed me to feel like I’d accomplished something crafty (and necessary).
I had one yard of each of the fabrics. After pre-washing, the fabrics were both 42″ in width, and so I cut 14″ squares so as to get six napkins out of each. With the 1/4″ double-fold hem, they’re about the size of your typical, everyday paper napkin. Works for me! For a dressier occasion, I’d prefer larger napkins, but these are perfect for our daily use.
Even though it was a fairly tedious project (involving slightly burned fingertips! :)), I enjoyed the work, because I sat and listened to podcasts while I cut, pressed, and sewed. Coming up soon, I’m planning to write a little blog post about my current favorites.
