Last month, I got a new computer. It’s bigger, faster, and honestly, a bit intimidating (I have found that Windows 8 is not very intuitive, at least for me)! As I made the transition from my old computer to my new one, I discovered a few links that were helpful. I decided to write a post so that 1) I could remember the resources, and 2) it might possibly help someone else in a similar situation.
First of all, I read this post just before my new computer arrived. It helped me to feel more confident about the whole process.
Here are a couple links for more specific items that I found to be helpful:
- I was most intimidated by transferring my Lightroom catalog. This video shows LR3, but I used the exact sames steps with LR4, and it worked absolutely beautifully:
(By the way, I’ve watched a number of the videos by Julieanne Kost on the Adobe website, and she is an excellent teacher. I highly recommend watching them!)
- I found this little gem of information about the manual library backup (using the newest software version) from Silhouette to be helpful for moving my cut file library to my new computer:
One thing I must note: not all of my files were transferred, somehow–files that I’d downloaded from the Silhouette store. However, I contacted Silhouette support, and they told me to perform a “recover all” through the Silhouette store, and that seemed to fix the issue. I was glad it wasn’t my self-made library items, or items I’d acquired from other sources!
- In order to transfer all of my fonts (I have a lot ::blush::), I used the process described here–which was so easy I felt a bit sheepish that I’d had to look it up!
