We had an incredible meal at ‘Ohana when we visited in 2016. And I took zero photos of the delicious dishes!! At the end of the meal, the server brought out a birthday cupcake for Husband, and I did take photos of that!
I made this layout in my Disney 2016 scrapbook for the Disney Creative Co. December 2021 “Incredi-Sketch” challenge:
Here’s the sketch I started with:
I love using sketches as starting points for my layouts. In some cases, the end result is very similar to the original sketch, and in other cases, the end result is simply inspired by the sketch. I think that this layout is on the latter end of that spectrum!
That being said, I think you can still see where the sketch informed my design: the journaling on the left, the alternating grid of photos and embellishments, and the horizontal strips at the top and bottom of the focal block. I’ve compressed the double-page layout into a single page.
Washi tape was the perfect base layer for the horizontal strips, and I used a branding strip and a scrap yellow paper to complete my clusters, popping up the top layer on some chipboard packaging for extra dimension. I also popped up the three photos of my husband to give them a slight emphasis.
I had a lot to say, so I wrote with a fine-tipped pen on a journaling card to slip it next to my photos. I wanted to highlight the cupcake, so I used the adorable Mouse Cupcake die to cut the delicate outline and tucked it under my photo.
My title is in the center block, and I must admit I’m pretty delighted with the way I was able to layer the alphas together, using the tall white alphas to link to the white cupcake die cut.
In my embellishment cluster, the white accent is in the date label and the scalloped strip from the Shimelle Starshine ephemera pack. Even though my gold twine is tricky to work with because it unravels so easily, I like the celebratory spray of the threads that picks up the gold in the washi and the title.
As I do for almost every layout in this album project, I add some finishing touches of wood veneer and enamel dots, and always a hidden Mickey!
