At the beginning of November, I saw this. My style of jewelry is typically a bit different from this Anthropologie necklace, but I really liked it when I saw it. And I thought, “boy, I wonder if I could make that?” Thankfully, at the bottom of that post, there’s a link to a Fiskars tutorial for a similar necklace!
I made the button pendant part one night sitting at the game table with friends, much to the amusement of several of the guys, who get a kick out of the button-covering process. I used 1/2″ and 3/4″ buttons because I didn’t want the pendant to be too big. The fabric was all tiny scraps that I had saved, and the embroidery floss was leftover from a long-ago project. I was pretty proud of myself for the hand embroidery that I added to the fabric scraps. It was the first time (at least since I was little) that I had done any kind of hand embroidery. I used this stitch chart from the Sew, Mama, Sew! blog to teach myself a few different stitches.
The chain part of the necklace was finished Christmas morning at the kitchen table. My brother, who is a professional musician, was playing several services that morning, so we waited to exchange gifts until the afternoon. My mom and I sat and talked while I worked on the beading and wire-bending. It came together so quickly!!

GORGEOUS! you’ve inspired me to finally give it a try.
I make covered button accessories as well, but I’m just starting out. I love the way all of my fabrics look together rather than just one pattern at a time (which is what I’m stuck with right now with bobby-pins, rings, earrings, etc.) I’ve been searching all day for a tutorial about how to make bib necklaces similar to this one!
Are there anymore details you can provide about how you connected the buttons to each other and to the chain? Also, check out Vivi Dot’s shop (vividotstore.com). I’m desparate to make necklaces like those, too! Any tips?
