To make this layout, I combined two sketches and a challenge! The two sketches were really compatible, so I “superimposed” them to be the basis for this layout.
I loved the circles+multiple photos in the Lily Bee Sketch Challenge #1 sketch:
And I loved how the journaling becomes a design element in the Sketchy Thursdays 10.13.2011 sketch:
And since the journaling is important on this layout, I thought I’d enter it into the Scrapbook Circle “Get Wordy” challenge #17, too!.
I want to mention how I went about adding the little strips of journaling along the side of the page, since I’ve figured out a bit of a “trick” to make it easier on myself.
First, I cut a whole lot of little strips (these happen to be 1/4″ wide). I got out an old Silhouette cutting mat that has lost most of its stickiness and laid it on top of the layout, lining it up with the edge of the page. Since it’s clear, I could see through it to place the strips so that they fit around the cluster of photos, and I trimmed off the excess strips along the edge of the mat. The slight stickiness of the mat held the strips in place while I wrote out my journaling. Then, using the mat as a guide, I adhered the strips to my layout.
